KONG non-profit organization

KONG vzw was founded in 1996 as a music education organization with a focus on movement and music in the form of workshops and concerts.

Larger projects such as Putting Into Shape Your Phantasy and De metro, a polyfilm were also developed within KONG vzw.

In 2006, the educational project 'The way from home to school', in exchange with Nord-Pas-de-Calais, transformed into aifoon non-profit organization that is still active (www.aifoon.org).

In 2023, KONG vzw picks up again after a long period of silence.
KONG will become a meeting platform and a sheltered place in which listening in a very broad sense of the word is central. It will be a studio for sharing experiences and trying things out, sometimes in a closed group, sometimes for the general public. We let everything grow organically and organize activities and events on a regular basis.

Movement and music are now complemented by resonance and sound, conscious movement, listening in motion and resonant embodied listening.

KONG vzw wants to continue working from the inside, from an inner necessity and urgency in these turbulent, changing times. Without pretense, without great ambitions, but necessary and in contact with young makers and researchers, in contact with its audience.

The KONG logo

In Chinese mythology, the word KONG has several meanings: magic, technique, female work and musical art.

As a non-profit organization, KONG embraces these different angles in which the carefulness and precision of technique and the care and fluidity of female work merge into other dimensions such as magic and musical art.

But there is more, in modern Chinese KONG means:

palace and residence. You can read the sign as a map of two rooms or as the representation of a door and a window with a roof above.[1]

By analogy, KONG vzw wants to function as a safe place where people can discover new things and meet each other.
