KONG Workshop 1.2024

Tidal Dance with Julien Bruneau

21/4/2024 from 10.30 to 12.30

2/6/2024 from 10.30 to 12.30

Tidal dance is a dance from within. After a moment of silence you start to move very slowly.

Julien guides the process until you are completely in motion, in space, in contact with yourself, without imposed form. It's a moment of enjoyment. Without realizing it, the two hours fly by.

This dance celebrates being. It is an energetic dance for everyone's body. The experience and the connection with an open energy are central.

"The tidal dance is a formless yoga. No postures, but the availability to a circulation that ebbs and flows from the axis of verticality. A contemplation in movement, it invites into experience the primordial pulse of apparition and withdrawal, emergence and dissipation, beginning and end.

At first, we sit in silence. We seep into bodily sensations, acknowledge the wave of breath, and embrace the space we are bathed into. Progressively movement wells up. A dance of slowness and intensity blossoms. It radiates from the center, twirls and ascends. Then, the journey recedes, back into stillness. We taste the resonance and dwell in presence, hosting the to and fro of sensations and feelings, now imbued with silence." (Julien Bruneau)

The practice is directly inspired by diverse approaches of Tantra (as sourced into Kashmir Yoga/non-dual Shaivism).

Julien Bruneau (BE) is a dancer, choreographer and
visual artist.

Julien Bruneau is an artist working with dance, presence, drawings and language. His practice is based on a dynamic interplay between interiority and collectivity. He creates performances, publishes, and works as an artistic researcher and a teacher. His first book, Fields, was published by Varamo Press in 2022.

From an early age, Julien was committed to movement through martial arts. Later, while studying visual arts, he discovers contemporary dance and the richness of conscious movement through different approaches: Body Weather, Yoga, Body Mind Centering, etc. In 2015, he is introduced to the ‘Authentic Movement’. After training with Céline Gimbrère, this simple and radical approach becomes a guiding principle in his work. From his long-term practice in Iyengar Yoga and later Kashmir Yoga, he teaches sessions in Tidal Dance, inspired by Tandava and Shaiva Tantra.

Beethoven's Septet op.20 en Four Dances for Septet by Vadim Bakker with Ensemble Calliope

26/05/2024 at 3 p.m.

The brand new ensemble Calliope Septet consists of seven passionate young musicians from the Royal Conservatories of Ghent and Antwerp. The ensemble
includes musicians of various nationalities. Their musical chains started together with an Orchestra Masterclass series with the Flander Symphony Orchestra working on repertoire by L.v.Beethoven. From their dedication and love to chamber music came the enthusiasm to take their
practice beyond the walls of the conservatory, presenting the responsibility as young musicians and making their own path as a vibrant new ensemble with free spirits.
Currently they are under the guidance by chairman of the chamber music department of Ghent Conservatory, Prof. Pieter Jansen.

The ensemble will venture into the iconic Septet Op.20 by Ludwig van Beethoven. In addition, the Calliope Septet will perform a new work-´Four Dances for Septet(2024)´
by dutch composer Vadim Bakker(*2000), who dedicated this piece to the Ensemble Calliope for their friendship.

The concert promises to be a captivating blend of classical grandeur and contemporary creativity.
